Fear of Public Speaking Can be Eliminated, Research Concludes

A just-completed study by researchers at the University of Arizona demonstrated that fear of public speaking can be virtually eliminated in a matter of hours, despite the fact that it is for most Americans the most intense fear they report having. The researchers used a unique approach for eliminating the beliefs that are the primary cause of the fear. The study concluded: “Overall The Lefkoe Method is an effective, quick, and convenient procedure to eliminate the fear of speaking in public.” The researchers were Lee Sechrest, Ph.D. and Victoria Cunningham, Ph.D., psychologists at the University of Arizona, and Morty Lefkoe of the Lefkoe Institute.The Lefkoe Method (TLM) consists of a series of processes that have been shown to be effective in producing many types of behavior and emotional change. The major technique used in this study is the Lefkoe Belief Process, which is based on the principle that virtually all our behavior and many of our emotions are caused by our beliefs.
