Sequence - A Hidden Public Speaking Secret

The sequence of the points you make in public speaking can be crucial - yet too many speakers either ignore it, or get muddled in either their planning or thinking.

No matter what the aim of your speech, your primary concern should be your audience. What do they get out of it? Even if you're platform selling, you'll get a greater response from people who believe you're giving them value in what you present.

So, be prepared to present the key points in the order that reflects your audience's priorities - with the most important first. If you do not do this you will find it difficult to hold their attention.

While you're working it out, you might find it useful to write each key point on a card and shuffle them into a variety of sequences. Consider the effect of each on your audience, and order them according to which will have the most impact on your audience.

By doing that, you'll most likely find that both yours and your audience's needs are best met.
